History
Once, there was a girl. She lived somewhere in the Balkans, and she had a family, friends, a dog, hobbies, dreams, desires.
Once, there was a war. This is hardly unusual, but this war came to the city where the girl lived. As her life turned upside down, she learned to fight.
And once, during this war, a Fae visited the city. He saw the girl fighting, he saw the fire that drove her, and he thought that she'd make an excellent addition to his wargaming pieces. So he took the girl back to Arcadia, took the fire that drove her and cloaked her in it, named her Aliera, and put her with the rest of his pieces.
Time passed, and Aliera fought, followed the Rules, and survived long enough to be promoted to commander of her unit.
Time passed, and Aliera forgot the girl she used to be.
She still isn't sure how much time had passed when another commander heard something. A song. Aliera didn't hear it, but suddenly she remembered singing. She remembered there was a world out there that she'd forgotten about. She and her unit followed Tilda and hers, all the way to a crack in the Warlord's domain that lead into Thorns. They spilled out into the Thorns, scattering as the Warlord realised some of his men were escaping and sought to close the cracks. As the escape route sealed over, Aliera finally gave up on trying to hold it open and promised those of her men she was being forced to leave behind that she'd come back for them. Then, like the other escapees, she went further into the Thorns.
She wandered the thorns for an indeterminate period of time, having her first encounters with goblins, learning that other prisoners of the Fae had escaped, and taming a small hedgebeast as a companion. Finally, a wave of heat called her, a flickering flame that resonated with the flame she had become during her time in Arcadia. It guided her out of the Hedge, into country Victoria. There she fell in with a few other escapees who taught her a little of Lost society and the courts, and she quickly found her way into the Court of Summer. Over time, flickers of past memory returned, enough to tease her that the memories of the girl she once was still remained, but not enough to help her become anything other than Aliera, Lost of the Summer Court.
In 2008 she left country Victoria for Melbourne. Here she met Morrolan and each claimed the other as a cousin, although nothing of that tie has been explained to anyone else. The two took the position of Summer Monarch and shared it between the two, much to the consternation of some of the freehold, but despite fears it seemed that nothing adverse came of it. Also in 2008 she met Rayne at a gathering of Lost in Adelaide, petitioned for membership in The Barony of the Lesser Ones, and was taken on as a student.
In 2009, she and Morrolan decided to stop sharing the position of Summer Monarch, and Aliera became the sole monarch for the court in Melbourne. Also in this year, she discovered that several of her fellow escapees had also wound up in Australia, and began tentatively contacting them and forming plans to return to Arcadia to fulfill her promise.
