Full Name: Roland Fitzroy
Sire: Gabriela Magdalena Zaragoza y de la Lanza
Bloodline: Unknown.
Date of Embrace: 1929.
Apparent Age: 30-odd.
Notable Traits: Somewhat grim, but generally polite, even when inflicting violence. Tends to be rather blunt with his statements and opinions. Is always neat and clean. He is occasionally prone to fits of passion, and it seems that his own pathos ruffles his composure more often than the efforts of others. Seems to prefer the practical, physical style of pennance for those who Confess to him. Has a vicious streak a mile wide.
Titles: 'Sir' or 'Chaplain' amoung the Invictus. 'Bishop' amoung the Lance.
Coteries/Societies: Order of the Burning Wreath, Domus Fervidus, La Familia de la Lanza, the London Court.
Information
Roland Fitzroy has spent most of the 20th century as a soldier and a killer. As a mortal he fought for the Empire on the fields of Flanders. The war ended for him after he failed to don his gas mask fast enough, and ended hospitalised.
With his embrace little more than a decade later, a new war began. Although his sire was Lance, Fitzroy himself gravitated towards the more practical side of the Alliance, becoming an Invictus Knight shortly after his release within the Most Honourable Order of the Thorned Wreath. He was a natural soldier and succeeded well enough to be commented upon at higher levels of the Order. When the existing Chaplin to the order was destroyed in action during the Second World War, Sir Fitzroy was asked by his commanders to take on the mantle of Chaplin on a temporary basis; a battlefield commission due to his practical understanding of Sanctified theology. A good Lance sire doesn't leave her childe uneducated, and that education was to be used for the good of the Order. Like any soldier worth his salt, Fitzroy did as was required of him, accepting the title and ministering to the souls of his comrades. What was to be a temporary situation was never reversed, and the title of Chaplin stuck.
Unfortunately, the open plan command structure of the Thorned Wreath left Sir Fitzroy deeply concerned. He found that the ability of any Invictus on good standing to command a Thorned Wreath Knight made the Order not only predictable, but difficult to direct in any strategically coherent way. After three and a half decades of service, Fitzroy requested from his superiors an honourable discharge from service to the Thorned Wreath. This was reluctantly granted, but rather than lay down his weapons altogether, Fitzroy took up service immediately with a competing Order of Knights, the Order of the Burning Wreath.
The Burning Wreath was a more ruthless example of an Invictus Knightly Order, and the strains of maintaining perfect obedience to an impractical set of commandments was lifted from his shoulders. Fitzroy remained in the now comfortable position of Chaplin; his mastery of Theban miracles suggesting that he had become probably more Sanctified than Invictus as time had worn on.
Fitzroy exists in the grey area between the First and Second Estates. He has been known to opine on occasion that the separation of Invictus and Sanctified into two separate and distinct Covenants is a distantly 'Carthian' concept, said with enough contempt to make it obvious he doesn't agree with it at all. Church and State and one and the same to him, and although many Daeva may well disagree on his position, the passion with which he maintains his convictions certainly marks out his blood for all to see.

IC Opinions
Fitzroy's thoughts on death, the Universe and everything.
- "Are you armed? No? Well I wouldn't want it said that I took advantage of an unarmed foe, so take this sword. Now I am going to kill you, so, if you haven't prepared a Legacy already, you're going to look like a bit of an idiot." - to an unknown Circle of the Crone Neonate moments before killing him.
- "Of course we murder people. That doesn't mean that we shouldn't be polite. We are soldiers, not barbarians." - to Archon Moran.
- "I didn't like the way he was looking at my sister." - by way of explanation, when found standing over a torpid Carthian, cleaning his blade.
- "A gentleman is one who never strikes a woman without provocation." - deadpan, on gender relations.
- "I don't threaten people. I simply state the consequences of their actions."
Your PC's thoughts on Fitzroy.
- "I had the pleasure of having Sir Fitzroy as my instructor whilst a Knight Initiate within the Thorned Wreath, and he taught me admirably and to the utmost of his skill and ability - if I am half the knight Sir Fitzroy is, then it is something I will be proud of. I regret the loss to our Order when he chose to renounce his vow and join our junior brother. I intellectually understand his choice, I do not personally agree with it. I do however support the decision of my teacher and mentor as being in the best interests of all our Requiems; without passion a knight is nothing - for them to regain that passion requires change. In the end I am simply thankful that we can be, as much as our Oaths allow and our nature dictate, friends.
*a pause*
Oh! You actually wished to know why Sir Fitzroy left? Seeking to discredit him amongst his noble peers, are you? Then, good sir, you should ask him. It is not my tale to tell and I am offended that you would think I would participate in scurrilous rumourmongering. Needless to say I will be discussing the situation with the Good Lady Harpy as to what recompense she feels your offensive question should take. And with that, sir, I bid you good night" - Archon Moran, when asked about his relationship with Sir Fitzroy and his subsequent departure from the Order of the Thorned Wreath.
- "Are you close, then, with your brother?" - The Septimii
- "Like Cain and Abel." - Ivy Darling
- "I hate Roland with every last iota of love in my body." - Ivy Darling
- "Yes, I've known Confessor Roland Fitzroy for quite some time now. We had some substantial amount of casual social contact in the London Courts. He's a very hands-on fellow, if you catch my meaning. He was once one member of that most notable Knighthood, and has since turned to confront his faith in a more direct manner. A loss to all Invictus, I am sure, and some occult gain to the Lancea Sanctum. The Second Estate is lucky to have another of the Familia de la Lanza amidst their pious ranks."
- "Touch her again, you worm ridden carcass of a dog...touch her where I can see you. I'll hurt you in ways she'll never hear about. Ridden out of the Knighthood on a Rail, and not worth the pitch and thorns. She would shower you with kisses, you lucky pig, if not for your boorish mein...were I in your place..." - both by Sir John Hargrave, the first in public, the second under his breath and quite to himself...
- "A ruthless, murdering bastard. It's splendid to have him on board." - Anson Krieg
- "It is a pleasure to serve a man of such honour and integrity. Some ask why he is still my lord if he is now of the Lancea Sanctum - I ask them, should we not support those who are worth the time, if all they are doing is turning their faces to God?" - Alexandra Hamersley, circa 2001.
- "I thank God for bringing my beloved childe to me. Even though we have been thousands of miles apart at times, he has ever been a constant in my Requiem since the night I Embraced him." - Gabriela Magdalena Zaragoza y de la Lanza
- "I am of two minds regarding Fitzroy. On one hand, I enjoy speaking with him, simply for the fact he's polite enough to not discuss religion with me unless some tainapea brings it up. On the other hand, I'd enjoy my visits to Brisbane much more if I could watch him disembowel select members of his Covenant." Jaagup Rebane.
Recent activity
Fitzroy came to Melbourne with his sire and sister. For some reason unknown to the general public he then disappeared and was next seen as a member of the Brisbane Court, where his brother Ezekial was in residence with his brood. Rumours persist of tension between himself and his siblings, both in Melbourne and Brisbane.
During the Praxis claim made by some other members of the Sanctified in September 2009, Fitzroy beat first his brother Ezekial, and then the Bishop Anton Walker into torpor in defense of Prince Septima. Fitzroy discussed the significance of torporing the Bishop with other Sanctified at the Conclave of Canberra shortly afterwards, and concluded that the 9th Canon dictated that he must take the position of Bishop from the re-awakened Walker. The Anointing took place shortly afterwards in a vicious ceremony performed by Bishop Bader of Sydney who travelled to Brisbane specifically for the Mass and Anointing.
Rumors
- Roland Fitzroy isn't his real name - his sire has been heard to call him 'Alejandro.'
- Fitzroy has had some sort of falling out with his sister, Ivy, that caused him to leave Melbourne vowing never to return.
- The Sanctified of Brisbane hate Fitzroy as Bishop and will do anything to remove him.
- They'd best be careful if that 'anything' includes death, given that his sire is known to have quite a temper.
