There is no consensus as to how old, or young or powerful James "Jay" McKenna is. Mostly because he remains tight lipped in that regard, preferring to keep his business "his business". He has however demonstrated knowledge ranging from as early as the 5th century, which could possibly be a clue.

He is also a musician by trade, rarely seen without his guitar, or some other musical instrument, and those who hear him tend to agree that he is magnificent, even should the music not be to their tastes.

He frequently makes trips to Ireland, or so it is claimed, seeking some sort of spiritual release. It is there that both his childe Junai, and his rumored Childe Ash hail from.
