Lady Seneschal Karly Finch

First two paragraphs are OOC information...

Karly was raised as a strict Catholic, attending a Catholic girl's school for the entire length of her schooling. She rebelled slightly in her last few years of high school, more out of a token gesture to be like her classmates than anything else. After high school, she tried and failed the entrance exam for Melbourne's Police Academy, and instead began a career as a private investigator and security specialist while she waited a few years with the intention to again try to gain entry into the police force.

Karly's mother disappeared when she was a toddler, leaving her to be raised by her father. Fearful of losing his daughter like he did his wife, Karly's father fostered an emotional dependency on him in Karly. When he died a year and a half before Karly's Embrace, she was quite lost until she met the man who would become her sire, and transferred her fixation to him. Karly refuses to believe in her fixation, ridiculing the claim of it when one of her Kindred family tried to warn her that it was dangerous. Karly also has a tendency to fixate on other male Kindred who manage to trigger her father-figure fixation, her fixation remaining whether or not they continue to act in the manner that originally triggered it, much to the consternation of her distant aunt, Akiko Toakgawa, who had identified Karly's fixation pattern.

Less than a week after her Embrace, Karly was in a building when a bomb went off. She believes it was a mail bomb at the police headquarters, as she can't remember and that's the only explosion in Melbourne at that time that she's been able to find reports of, but she hasn't yet considered how she was in what was essentially an office building in mid-morning. The explosion pushed Karly into torpor, and she didn't wake up until June 2006, whereupon she went looking for her sire and began learning about Kindred society. Not quite three years later months later she has seen six praxis seizures in two cities and was released on the night of the second Melbourne praxis seizure that she was present for.

The particulars of Karly's Embrace are a mystery, as Finch has lost all of his memories of that time to torpor, and Karly claims that torpor has left the last few weeks of her life and the few days of her existence between Embrace and torpor a haze. Most of Karly's unlife has been spent in torpor, which is why she's only recently been released, in June 2007. Even then, were it not for her sire getting involved in politics and not wanting any backlash of his actions to be taken out on her, she'd still be unreleased. Many members of the Melbourne court would have liked to have seen her released months before she actually was, and didn't know what took so long. She tended to act like she was, as her sire let her run around without a chaperone and make her own decisions. Her decisions almost always correspond to her sire's, although recently she seems to be showing opinions of her own.

She appears very sweet and innocent, used to often not seem to understand quite what's going on until it's explained to her (although that's most certainly changed in recent months), and is normally fairly shy, although she has been coming out of her shell somewhat recently, and after the events at the national gathering in Sydney at the end of September 2007 she has become more openly confident. Her nature meant that most Kindred missed that she's highly intelligent and fairly competent at what she does, those that have noticed are either among those who were the ones who most wanted to see her released, or weren't saying anything while they keep a careful eye on her. Sometimes both. With her recent progress within the Melbourne court, many more have started to realise just what she can do, but many people (including Karly herself) continue to underestimate her.

Directly after her release she surprised everyone by joining the Invictus and swearing fealty to Fenris Black. She was a member of the First Estate for mere months before she formally renounced her status and left the Invictus the night her liege was expelled from the Covenant during a gathering of the Australia Kindred in Sydney at the end of September 2007, minutes after she'd sworn the Oath of Blood Loyalty to him. She stated that the oath she had sworn to him was more than just the blood tie that had broken upon his expulsion, it was her word and her honour which she refused to break by remaining with the Invictus, where she would be at the very least pressured to swear to someone else. She has since stated that only four things will bring an oath she swears to anyone to an end - the oath expiring, being released from the oath by the person she swore it to, the person she swore teh oath to dying, or the person she swore the oath to breaking their side of the oath.

Choosing to join her sire and the majority of her family, she left the Elysium that night with Sydney's Hierophant. When she turned up to the next gathering two days later she was apparently being initiated into the Circle of the Crone, where she followed the path of Maiden and seemed to be a fairly low-key member of the Circle, although quiet rumours circulated that she never completed her initiation for one reason or another and was actually Unaligned. She's generally close-lipped about her current religious beliefs, although she has been heard to refer to 'God' more often than any Goddess, has referred to Longinus as 'Saint Longinus,' and has mentioned to a couple of people that she thinks all religions - including Kindred ones - are actually worshipping the same entity/power. She's also demonstrated that she is highly against summoning spirits.

Shortly after the Sydney 2007 gathering, the new Prince of Melbourne, James Morrow, appointed Karly as his Seneschal until he changed all of his court officers in May 2008, at which time she took up the role of Deputy Sheriff. Around the same time as becoming Seneshcal she also became Mekhet Priscus of her city, a position she still currently holds. At the national gathering in Melbourne in April 2008, she was appointed Clan Speaker for the Australian Mekhet until the gathering in Adelaide October 2008. At this October gathering she stated that she was Unaligned, with only an overheard statement that her year in the Chorus was over giving any indication as to why her affiliation had changed. Her parting from the Circle appears to be completely amicable, at least with the Melbourne Circle.

Over the past year or so Karly and the young Daeva Jakob Fury have been noticed as becoming increasingly close, despite Karly's half-hearted claim of "we're just good friends." Such 'good friends,' in fact, that the last time they were seen together they were hand-in-hand. With Jakob's death, Karly has been heard referring to him as her cariad, burying her "we're just friends" claim and hinting that she has some Welsh heritage.

Karly has recently returned to Melbourne after a several months in Sydney, where she had ostensibly been assisting the now-deceased Prince Aaron Wilmott, but had rarely been seen at the Sydney court. Shortly after Karly's return to Melbourne, Britannia again claimed praxis, and appointed Karly as co-Sheriff with Discord.

With the spread of a fatal Kindred-only blood plague around Australia, her sire enacted a ritual that resulted in him being possessed by what was apparently the spirit of Tearlach. 'Tearlach' enacted a ritual to open a portal to another realm, and took four Kindred through with him on a one-way trip. After a brief conversation, Karly was the fourth and last Kindred to accompany 'Tearlach' to the other side, the portal closing once she stepped through.
